The icon reborn – Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4

It’s been 50 years since the unveiling of the revolutionary Lamborghini Countach as a new “category promoting” supercar. They say “legends never die” and Lamborghini is refreshing that up with their all new Countach LPI 800-4, imagined and seen through original Countach, build and presented for the future as a hybrid supercar.  

THE INTRO 

Legendary Countach marked the beginning of the new era in sportscars, the supercar was born. The now iconic Lamborghini Countach was futuristic and disruptive design, with clean lines and sharp edges creating famous wedge shape.

Highly recognizable Countach was carrying a lot of unique and eye catching features, the scissor doors, pop up headlights, wheel arch design, or the roaring power of the longitudinally positioned V12 engine.

Countach is a “legend” because what he did was a revolution in design and gave the inspiration that runs through through Lamborghini DNA. Countach set the bar for the modern supercar and design blueprint for all new Lamborghinis.

THE NEW COUNTACH LPI 800-4

It is evident that Lamborghini wanted to carry a touch of the past into the future with new Countach, on which we wholeheartedly agree. The spirit of the original Countach lives in the modern LPI 800-4.

Its futuristic, sleek, with wedge silhouette and trend setter lines, it’s hybrid, a true modern supercar.

CHASSIS DESIGN

The car is very low and wide, with side intakes and air vents around the top of the rear wheels, flat headlights, grill structure on engine bay, irregular wheel arch design and hexagonal shape of the rear lights, the car screams the iconic name Countach.

The monocoque chassis and body panels are made from carbon fibre using the most advanced technology for the production.

INTERIOR 

Interior design complements the exterior with futuristic lines giving the Countach tag “car from the future” in the same time keeping the looks of the timeless classic.

The unconventional look of the interior, with geometric lines, square motive on the dashboard, sports and comfort leather seats and electrochromic glass on the monocoque roof mark out retro inspiration for the new Countach.

WHAT SETS THE COUNTACH LPI 800-4 IN MOTION 

 

Countach boasts with naturally aspirated V12 engine delivering 780 CV (574 kW) for impressive performance. Total combined power of 814 CV (599 kW) is achieved with additional help from the state of the art hybrid system.

Instead of battery, Lamborghini hybrid system has supercapacitor and 34 CV electric motor. In total this system weights only 34 kg. which translates to power to weight ratio for electric system of 1 kg / CV.

Acording to Lamborghini their innovative supercapacitor enables storage of 10 times more energy than lithium-ion battery.

DRIVING DYNAMICS

On the new Countach there’s a host of other tech systems regarding the driving dinamics.

  • 4 wheel steering system – the LDS system is giving greater agility at low speeds and optimum stability and control at higher speeds. The LDS by means of two electromechanical actuators manages rear steering axle for unique driving experience and dynamic performance.

LDS system works and operates by following and adapting to the current vehicle speed and selected driving mode.

  • Working closely with this new dynamic systems there is Countach all wheel drive system. The torque distribution between front and rear axles also changes dynamically following selected driving mode and road conditions.

  • Another state of the art tech is Countach 4 wheel active suspension. This system is also developed to work other dynamic systems especially the rear wheel steering system. HIs job is to give the car ideal response to any conditions and to mitigate unwanted chassis movement or rolling.

This 4 wheel active suspension consists front and rear magnetorheological shock absorbers with pushrod system.
